Wicked is a musical based on the 1995 novel Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West by Gregory Maguire. Wicked is about the untold story of Land of Oz and the story begins before and after the arrival of Dorothy in Oz from Kansas. It narrates the story of two girls, one with emerald-green and another looking beautiful. The two unlikely friends Elphaba and Glinda grow to become the Wicked Witch of the West and Good Witch of the North and how they struggle with their attitudes, competing with the same love-interest, and finally how Elphaba fall from her attitude.

With the creative team music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz, Book by Winnie Holzman, produced by Universal Pictures with Marc Platt and David Stone, directed by Joe Mantello and choreographed by Wayne Cilento, the Wicked Musical made its debut at the Gershwin Theatre on Broadway in October 2003. The Musical underwent pre Broadway trials at Curran Theatre, San Francisco in May 2003 before its premiere show. As a result the Broadway production acquired 3 Tony Awards, 6 Drama Desk Award and a Grammy Award.

The original Broadway cast included Idina Menzel as Elphaba, Kristin Chenoweth as Glinda, Norbert Leo Butz as Fiyero and Joel Grey as The Wizard of Oz.

After the success of Broadway production, the musical started its worldwide touring productions. It started its US tour in 2005 in Toronto, Ontario and performed in various cities like Chicago, Los Angeles, Florida and also in Canada. In 2006, the West End Production started its previews from September 7, at the Apollo Victoria Theatre and officially opened on 27th of the same month.
